Judy Dailey – A Brief Biography

Northern California artist, was born in Southern California as the third of four girls. Her father worked various jobs taking the family from California to Kansas and back. At an early age the family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where she attended Junior and most of Senior High School. At every chance she took art and craft classes and found she enjoyed many different mediums. She tried watercolor, sculpting, casting.

In her senior year of high school she left home and moved with some friends to Quincy, California where she completed high school. She went on to Junior College to major in Psychology but found herself without money to finish.

She worked, met her husband, Skip and started a family. All during those times she dabbled in craft projects and eventually learned from her sister how to etch glass. Her glass etchings were quite popular with the local residents. Judy then decided to learn the art of leaded glass. She loved it but only made a few pieces before she created the art on tile she now produces.

The art on tile came quite by accident. She had some leftover tiles from a kitchen remodel and always had paints and craft supplies on hand. One mundane Saturday afternoon she began thinking through a process using those old tiles and combining them with her craft supplies on hand and techniques learned over the years. She continued refining the process and many friends began buying her work and encouraging her to sell them.

And so the business Tile Treasures has evolved and Judy continues to explore new mediums and subjects for her tile art.
